Health Ministry directive: In view of #Corona, the state should ban spitting of tobacco in public places
New Delhi Every effort is being made to prevent the spread
of corona virus infection in the country. Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry
has asked all states to ban the use and spitting of chewing tobacco in public
places. The corona virus keep spreading from one person to another person. When
particles of sneeze in the sputum go into the air, other people can become
infected when they come in contact with it.
Spitting in public places can spread corona rapidly
In recent times one letter is sent by Chief Secretary of all
states and union territories, the Health Ministry states that non-smokeless
chewing tobacco, pan masala & betel nut results in producing more saliva inside
the mouth and there is a greater desire to keep spitting in public places which
will result into the boost of spread of Covid-19.
The Medical Council of India
(ICMR) has requested to the public to ban and stop the consumption of chewing
tobacco products and put an end of spitting in public places in concern of the increase
of threat of corona virus epidemic.
As per the letter, the state governments including union territories
can have the essential powers to treat with Covid-19 under several laws.
Ban has already been imposed in Jharkhand-Bihar
The letter issued by the Ministry of Health expresses that
in the same background, it is requesting for that solid measures should be
taken under appropriate legislation to completely ban the use chewing tobacco and
prohibit spitting of these products at public places after intake.
Some states such as Jharkhand, Bihar , Telangana, ,
Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh ,Maharashtra, Haryana, Nagaland and Assam have
already probihated the use and spitting of chewing tobacco products in widespread
during the Covid-19 epidemic.
As per Ministry of Health, the number of corona virus
infections across the country on Saturday stood at 7530 while the number of
dead reached 653.
